<wenjie>
music film work for
Bananan Tamago's new album
Ye Wenjie is a leading character from the hard science fiction novel <The Three-Body Problem> by Chinese writer Liu Cixin. She’s an expert in astrophysics who’s secretly recruited by the government for an outer space program. Whilst she is a key figure for the whole storyline in the novel, however, the emotional narrative of her as an individual seems to be ignored. Years after the novel came out, the fantastic alien invasion plot and the special Chinese communistic environment are all the time vividly rooted in audiences’s mind, but Wenjie is vaguely being remembered as a lonely figure who’s always working alone in a separated observation station.
As @bananan_tamago ‘s new release music album is tackling dramatically evolving technologies and their impact on self-perception, here i want to take Wenjie’s figure as a touch point, focusing on her faded image resulted from the massive narrative and bandwagon, which in today is even more loudly resonated, when global 5G antennas being built and Elon Musk launching his starlink satellites. How individuality will be formulated at this moment?
Or, why “formulating” ?
